Purpose

Systems developers (also known as backend developers) develop and implement applications and programs for parts of IT systems that are hidden from users but that keep organisations running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

• To apply training to develop software to user specifications
• To confirm to procedures and standards in place within the department
• Proactive approach to learning and application of skills
• Work Collaboratively with the Systems Development Team
• Understand wider business and context for system requirement
• Testing projects and responding to any problems or bugs revealed
• Managing projects through their lifecycle
• To develop software in accordance with end user requirements

Relationships

• Working with Senior Developers and a wider team
• Reporting on functionality of web applications and devising plans for improvements
• Teamwork skills

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

• A good standard of education required including minimum 5 GCSE passes (grades A – C) including Maths and English
• Knowledge of modern programming languages advantageous but not essential
• Any experience demonstrating an interest in becoming a software developer (gaming, software projects, etc)
• Problem-solving skills

• Able to work as part of a small team
• Able to communicate well within the department
• Desire to develop into a software development role
• Self-development skills to keep up to date with fast-changing trends
• Programming languages such as C# and HTML
• Mathematical aptitude and strong problem-solving skills
